My world, and welcome to it.
Saint Francis is an example that we often cite, rightfully looking to him as an example of faithfulness and missionality. However, if we truly want to live in such a way, we must recognize that we will face the same unpopular choices as those before us, choices that will find us rejected, judged and even condemned, often by those within the church. We will be charged as heretics, turn-coats, communists and traitors. We will have to resist fiery retorts, not matter how right we may be, leading by example- a living and loving alternative.

In his magical and eccentric way, he triumphs through this self knowledge. He transcends the buffeting, always get up to live another day and shares his joy with us. - Beryl Hugill, Bring on The Clowns
The blind man is the atheist or materialist, and the man is so absorbed in material aims that he neglects all thought of spiritual things. It is a man who is a slave to his desires.

Society everywhere is in conspiracy against the manhood of every one of its members. The virtue in most requests is conformity; self-reliance is its aversion. It loves not realities and creators, but names and customs. Whoso would be a man must be a nonconformist. He who would gather immortal palms must not be hindered by the name of goodness, but must explore if it be goodness. Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind.
